Join WIF for a vital, interactive workshop explaining key deal points for contracts and negotiating and understanding producer agreements for film and television with attorney Dorisa Shahmirzai. Participants will have the opportunity to break into sessions and work on a fact pattern where they role-play as agents, producers, and talent, and exercise key negotiation points.

About Dorisa Shahmirzai (J.D)

Dorisa Shahmirzai focuses her practice on entertainment and technology-based transactions, including intellectual property acquisitions and licensing strategies for entertainment and technology companies.

​Dorisa has negotiated on behalf of talent, production and distribution companies and advises clients on above the line, film financing, production, scripted and non-scripted deals for film, television, and digital platforms.  Dorisa's entertainment transactions include successfully negotiating a book option agreement for the author of the Love Boat, Jeraldine Saunder, a film option agreement for Martin Turnbull's Garden of Allah, providing a complicated movie rights analysis for Tom Sturges, and negotiating a television production agreement for Jose Andres in connection with Vamos a Cocinar. 

Using her experience in intellectual property law and contract negotiation Dorisa also advises clients in deal-making, development, and marketing on web, mobile, and social platforms.  She handles corporate formation, investment agreements, and IPO deals for technology companies. 

After law school, Dorisa clerked with San Francisco Superior Court, Law and Motion. She has also served as adjunct faculty at UCLA extension, teaching a course on negotiating deals in media and entertainment.  She has authored articles on Copyrights at LA Lawyer Magazine and been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.  Dorisa also served as a panel attorney at California Lawyers for the Arts for the past 10 years and as a board member at Boys and Girls Club.   

Dorisa obtained her J.D. from University of California at Davis in 2004.  She graduated with her B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology from University of California at Berkeley and obtained her M.S. in Public Health from Harvard University.  She is admitted to practice in CA and DC.
